Hello Taeryn I have a question about books in general, and seeing as though you are the most experienced writer I know, I though it best to ask you. Okay so I have a new book idea, but I'm not sure about it, because I want it to be in the modern era, but I want it to be a made-up world. The thing is I haven't really seen a made-up world in the modern era, only in old tims e.g. Middle Earth, Narnia etc....So I'm just wondering, should I make it so it is in and old era, or just keep it as it is? Thanks! ;D

Well, that's a difficult thing to determine. First of all, there are many alternate modern worlds, primarily in the sci-fi genre. The only difficulty is to make the world unique, without being so far out as to be confusing, or not unique enough, therefore making it seem too close to our own.
Personally, I like older worlds. The NightPanther environment smacks of Medieval Europe just enough to make most concepts immediately accessible to the imagination, but still maintains enough independence so as not to be historically inaccurate. (I didn't want to do any research, which I hate.)
Knowing nothing else about your idea, I'd have to say that you should go with whatever best suits the story parameters, or whatever best suits your interests, experience, etc, whether that be back in time, parallel present, or imagined future.

You were right, researching sucks! I wanted to find when glass was invented, as I decided to make it medieval-ish...and it just came up with everything but a specific date

Lol, sorry, but lol. They don't even have a decade? It was invented a good while ago... but not perfected right away.

Yeah that's the thing, 'a good while ago' isn't really helping

hehe, well, look up info on the medieval Guilds. If they had a glassblowing one, then it existed

I wanted to know, because I was describing a hous and I came to the windows, and I was wondering whether they would be made of glass or would just be holes in the walls...

Still though, what about the Guilds? There were a lot of them in medieval Europe

In lieu of glass, it was usually oiled paper, or just plain empty windows with shutters.
